Diana the Valkyrie's Guide to the Internet

A hard man is good to beat

Introduction

Everyone uses the internet. Everyone on this web site, anyhow. And it's all very new, and not very well understood. It isn't just the technical stuff, that's bad enough! But there's also the etiquette. And what is safe? And what isn't? You can't just use "common sense", this is all new.

Can you really "Make money fast"? What about investing in internet stocks? How do you deal with spam?

Etiquette is the way that people behave towards each other, and it's different in different cultures. In one culture, when you enter a room, you smile and shake hands with everyone there. In another culture, you don't shake hands, you smile and nod. In another culture, you don't shake hands, but you smile and bow. Which of those is right? Both of them, of course. When I'm in America, I shake hands. When in England, I nod to people. When I'm in Japan, I bow. You're probably safe to smile anywhere you go, but I wouldn't be certain of that.

The internet has its own culture, but it also includes people from every culture in the world. So it gets confusing. One of the few things you can always do on the internet, is smile :-)

I hope this series of "Diana the Valkyrie's Guide to the Internet" helps people with various aspects of the internet, a medium which seems to be destined to become as important to the human race as television.
