The Enforcer 1995  AKA Jet Li's The Enforcer AKA Letter To Daddy 


AKA My Father Is A Hero (you also must be wary of other movies titled The
Enforcer. there is a 1951 Humphrey Bogart film, a 1988 made for TV movie, and,
in 1976, Clint Eastwood's third Dirty Harry movie.) ACCESS:just about every
video store on the planet has a copy, and, due to the fact that it's a family
oriented drama, i strongly suspect that it will be coming to cable.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: this is more of a dramatic movie with martial arts in it
than a "kung fu movie". it's about an under cover cop/secret agent who
penetrates the HK triad despite being plagued by family problems. his wife is
deathly ill, and his son is being humiliated in school because his father is
apparently a thug. when his mother dies, the son, who is a gifted martial
artist, sets out to find his father. he is aided by a sympathetic police woman
(Mui) who is after the father, not being aware that he is an undercover cop.

SCISSORS SCENE: Mui and the son have boarded a fishing boat and she is asking
questions of a bunch of small time hoods. one of them slips away and calls the
boss who orders them to rough her up. a melee ensues as the officer has to try
to fight them off. suddenly it's "say hello to my little friend" time. the kid
jumps in and they combine to beat the men into submission. at one point Mui
lays back onto a table to avoid a slash from a man wielding a machete. she
brings her legs up, crosses them at the knee, and traps his neck between her
calves. meanwhile she seizes his hand with the machete in it and uses it to
block a blow from another man. the boy lands a kick to that man's legs,
causing him to fall forward, close enough for her to knock him out with an
elbow to the face. she is now free to turn her attention back to the man
caught in her legs and she twists violently, flipping him head over heels to
the ground. she springs to her feet and steps on his neck pressing down until
he succumbs.

POSITIVES: good looking lady, great energy, fine lighting and camera work.
also it should be noted that she is wearing tight, light colored slacks. this
greatly enhances visibilty. the factor that she holds one man prisoner in her
legs while dealing with another is reminiscent of the excellent scissors from
"Menno's Mind."

NEGATIVES: not too much to complain about here. just the usual, brevity.
