movie mixed scissors scenes by dmg Spanish Judges 2001 STARRING: Vincent D'Onofrio Valeria Golino Matthew Lillard Mark Boone Junior ACCESS: video/just hit the shelves! GENERAL DESCRIPTION: a con man needs help selling a stolen suitcase back to a mobster so he enlists the aid of a young couple who are small time criminals. they bring in another gun man to help out and the con man quickly sows the seeds of distrust between them all. soon it becomes a question of who will survive to enjoy the spoils of their work. Valeria Golino is terrific as Jamie, the most physical member of the group whose favorite killing method is poison. SCISSORS SCENE:the group has a locked suitcase filled with money and their helper named Piece has gone to get a drill to force it open. in his absence Jamie has decided to kill him. she puts on a pair of transparent gloves and opens a medicine cabinet. she dabs some chemicals onto a piece of white cloth. as Piece returns the con man and Max, Jamie's boyfriend, act as if nothing is wrong. Jamie comes into the room with a smile on her face and the poisoned cloth behind her back. Piece is puzzled by their strange demeanor but he turns away friom her to drill open the case. just as she is about to pounce on his back he turns around to her and she backs off and smiles innocently. when he turns away and gets on one knee to work on the case she jumps on his back and hold the poisoned cloth over his mouth and nose. he groans, stands up and spins around, trying to throw her off, but she has scissored her legs tightly around his body preventing his escape. he reaches for his gun but the con man removes it from his holster. he is wheezing and gasping now as he bangs against several objects in the room. as they both fall to the rug he finally escapes her grip from behind and they wrestle facing each other. despite a big size advantage he is helpless as she keeps the rag pressed against his nose and mouth. finally he sinks to all fours and she mounts his back, straddling him with her legs and holding one hand against the back of his head, pressing his face in to the cloth she is holding in her other hand. as he groans his last she whispers to him in her delicate French accent, "die, die." after he succumbs she rolls off of him and says to her two stunned male accomplices, "thanks for the help, boys." POSITIVES: great setup, great looking woman and terrific acting by everyone involved. she actually seemed to know how to wrestle. in the beginning of the movie she administers a one sided butt kicking to the con man that included some genuine wrestling holds. NEGATIVES: the lighting is only so so. the scissors is not used to squeeze him but to hold him in place as she murders him. (see From Dusk Til Dawn for a similar motif) OVERALL RATING: **
