POEM ON BEING BARRED FROM THE WRITERS GROUP We're contacting you about your readings Of Norseland causing distress and offence Of members with hearts sore and bleeding With pain and distress anguish so immense As Chair I have responsibility To ensure what is read is suitable To all members backgrounds and all ages Protect them from what is undesirable Your writing offends in its entirety Upsets members in every single page Norselandic sagas we will not permit Subjects racist sexist and so graphic Will not allow whatever causes offence Cannot read what causes indignation Otherwise you face our condemnation We decide what is read in our decree Our verdict what is read is our decision You know there have been so many complaints One lady felt she was so disgusted One person in anger showed no restraint A mother son shocked at the word bleedin' Your stories reveal vivid imagination Leave us to write on cats and recipes In peace let us be dull in harmony Our work many be trite but causes no offence Just leave us to stagnate in banality Creativity we make no pretence How can writing be sexist or racist? New world of fantasy it describes My country called fascist a police state A matriarchal order it prescribes How can I be called a misogynist? Who writes of equality and gynarchy? For everyone offended one enjoys Told to overcome my hostility The PC nonsense that I must endure To forget this group would be my best action To feel confident about myself To be published my satisfaction.
