The LSI SAS3081E-R 8-port Internal SATA/SAS PCI-E RAID Controller Cards that I bought (two of) can't handle hard drives larger than 2tb, which is annoying. However, I have enough of those 2tb drives to be able to still make use of the controllers.
I had a lot of trouble with Maire, my main backup server. Drives kept dropping out. I tried replacing the drives, that didn't help. I replaced the controller, that didn't work. Eventually, I replaced the power supply to the drives, and it seems that this was the problem all along, because they work fine now.

I checked the site statistics that Sandra counts up each night.
At the end of November 2016, there were about 1,564,000 pictures (346 gigabytes), 545 gigabytes of video, 16419 text files (mostly stories) and a total of about 892 gigabytes. There's 620,000,000 pictures altogether in Newsthumbs, increasing at about 5 million per month.
