Supergirl vs Helga Hammerfist 4 For the first time in months Supergirl lay asleep quietly. She was on the side of Mars furtherest from Earth. It was here to which she repaired in order to sleep without fear. Even her subconscious mind knew that it would take Helga months to get here, even if she had possessed a space ship. Neverthelss, visions of Helga Hammerfist's massive physique and her huge muscles, and memories of the total mastery Helga had obtained over her, and of the agonising beating she had handed out to her, had tortured all of her sleeping hours even here, until tonight. Tonight visions of Selina had swum into her mind in their place. After many long weeks her sleep now brought her rest, as images of Selina guided her dreams, slowly and peacefully, to the joy of submission to Catwoman which she realised she craved. She quietly, smiling contentedly to herself in her sleep, knowing that something wonderful was going to happen. Selina... the gorgeous statuesque Selina... who had confronted the terrifying Helga Hammerfist with a confident smile on her face... would take her to heaven and back. She lay still and submissive, waiting for Selina to come to her. She knew that Selina would look after her. Supergirl moaned as her eyes fluttered open and she awakened. She lay awake, disappointed that it had only been a dream, but enjoying the warmth of her bed,and savouring for the first time in months the feeling of waking from untroubled sleep. Supergirl wished that she could stay on Mars forever; out of reach of the crushing force of Helga's gigantic muscles. But she knew that to be impossible. Rising reluctantly from her bed, she flew down to Earth. She soaked herself in the warm thermal pools which dotted the snow capped muntains of Okkaido. Then she dressed, and flew to Gotham City. Fifteen minutes later she was attending afull scale meeting of the Justice League. "Ladies and Gentlemen" said Batman, who always took the chair, almost as of right. "We face a crisis. Lex has created a troop of super humans, an Enhanced Army. That would not usually constitute a crisis. In the Marvel Family (he inclined his head towards the three Marvels), and in our two Kryptonians (he smiled at the two Super cousins), not to mention the Princess of Paradise Island (he gestured towards a fully healed Wonder Woman), we have always had more than enough muscle to deal with the usual run of enhanced fighters. But that is most definitely NOT all. Not only is Lex continuing to create his Enhanced Army at a rate at which we can only guess, so that he may soon have an overwhelming number of them, but, in addition, and by some freak chance, one of the Army is of such a magnitude of dense muscularity as to render her easily superior to each one of our superheroes, and probably to all of them simultaneously. This woman, Ms Hammerfist (Supergirl shivered) has defeated Mary Marvel and Wonder Woman, and has shredded Wonder Woman's magic lasso as if it were tissue paper. And she has defeated, and obtained total and complete psychological domination over Supergirl, who, despite Kal's usual macho protests, is generally reckoned to be our strongest member behind Wonder Woman. Furthermore, until now Lex has used his army, and the overwhelming advantage given to him by the power of Ms Hammerfist, with genius. His Enhanced Army can overwhelm all ordinary defences, and we never know whether Ms Hammerfist will be with them, so we don't dare try to stop them. The Enhanced Army has carried out twenty successful robberies in the last three months. Its almost war - a war in which we appear to have been defeated before we started. Does anybody have any suggestions?" "What about Green Lantern's power ring?" asked Captain Marvel, trying to bring the Wisdom of Solomon to bear on the problem. "If he could scoop the Hammerfist up into the air, and carry her away, we could deal with the rest of them." "And surely the Flash might be able to take out the ordinary Enhanced Armys before Helga can get into the act?" suggested Captain Marvel Junior, trying to tap the same source. "Surely she can't take us all on at once?" Everyone contributed something until Batman stroked his chin. The rest of the Justice League smiled to each other. This was always a sign that, having heard what others had to say, the Batman was going to come out with the best idea of all. "It seems to me, Ladies and Gentlemen, that we must begin at the beginning. Mary Marvel winked at Captain Marvel Junior, who looked up at the ceiling and sighed. "Now the beginning of this particular saga is Lex's production of an Enhanced Army. We must try to put a stop to that before we can properly tackle the problem. Until we do that Lex will always have enough Enhanced Soldiers to defeat us, if only by sheer weight of numbers, and he will be able to replace any troops we may happen to take out. Furthermore, until that is done we can never be sure that another Ms Hammerfist will not emerge on to the scene (Supergirl turned whiteish green). Is everyone with me so far?" They all were. "Now I've been doing some research into orders placed by Lex's facility in the twelve months before the Enhanced Army appeared. Much of the stuff is standard laboratory fare, but two unusual items interested me. The first was a small, unique opal. Lex seems to have been very particular as to its precise specifications, and there can't be two in the world now, or botainable in future. The second was electrical equipment of a kind unusual in a chemical laboratory. I've considered what this amounts to, and it seems to me that the key to Lex's production of an Enhanced Army must be a beam, or ray, which is generated by electricty, but which is filtered through the opal. If we can find and destroy his opal lens we can prevent the manufacture of more Enhanced Soldiers. Any comments!" There were none. "It appears to me therefore, that what we have to do..." "What do you mean it appears to YOU" said Captain Marvel Junior. "WE'RE the ones who are going to take them out. So lets go gang. Lets take them out now." He leapt into the air, Mary with him. Captain Marvel and Superman followed.Wonder Woman soared up with them. Before Batman could say "But..." they were off to the Lex Laboratory. Batman turned to Supergirl and Green Lantern, the only superheros to remain behind. "Impetuous boy" Batman said. "You'd better follow them. But keep well behind and observe. Don't get mixed up in any fighting (Supergirl nodded vigorously). If Helga is there she will certainly capture Kara, and probably beat her to death. So keep well away. Observe. Stay as a protective reserve. Kara, you may have to fly the wounded out at super speed. Hal, you may have to protect them with your green lantern rays." Nodding in comprehension they both rose, and flew off. The three Marvels, Superman and Wonder Woman smashed into the Lex facility with ease. Once inside they looked about. Superman tried to find the opal lazer with his x-ray vision, but everything in the facility seemed to be made of lead, and he could see through nothing. "Come on gang" said Junior. "Lets move. We'll soon find..." "You'll find nothing!!" rapped out a voice over a loud microphone. "Enhanced Army, attack". 100 muscular men and women swarmed round corridors, and charged into the superheroes. They worked with perfect discipline. 20 of them went to each superhero or superheroine. Four grabbed each arm, and four each leg, while four smashed fists into jaws and bodies. No one of them was more than half as powerful as any of the superheroes, but in those numbers the Enhanced Armys were irresistible, and the Justice Leaguers were outclessed and helpless. Within five minutes Captain Marvel Junior and Captain Marvel himself had been overcome, captured and beaten senseless. The Enhanced Armys threw them in a pile, one on top of the other, where the battered, unconscious form of Wonder Woman followed them a few minutes later. Superman and Mary Marvel struggled on. They each tightened the powerful muscles which surrounded their bodies, creating a shield against which the Enhanced Army battered, apparently in vain. Green Lantern, who was hovering in the air with Supergirl, watching from a distance, sent out rays which forced the Enhanced Army off Mary Marvel and Superman. They lay on the ground, struggling to recover their breath. Then Supergirl's pulse started racing like an engine as the massive form of Helga Hammerfist emerged, and moved towards Mary and Superman. Supergirl clung to Green Lantern in convulsive terror as Helga's gargantuan biceps swelled... her mighty fists rose and fell... Supergirl heard the sound of a breaking jaw, and Mary Marvel joined the pile of limp, broken unconscious bodies on the pile of defeated Justice Leaguers. Helga strolled over to where Superman was being held upright and unmoving by 16 Enhanced Soldiers. "Hal" said Supergirl. "Stop her. She'll kill him." A green ray shot out. It surrounded Helga in a bubble and moved her away from Superman. Helga looked up. "So!!" she boomed. "Green Thing wants to get into this fight does he". She raised her fist, and smashed it against the wall of the green bubble. The power of her blow reverberated along the wall of the bubble, right up into Hal's power ring. Green Lantern turned white. He looked as if he was about to be sick. His bubble dissipated completely. He groaned, lost consciousness, and plummeted from the sky. Supergirl shot downwards to catch him, and to carry him to safety. Helga laughed, and moved once more towards the spot where Superman was held upright but unmoving by the Enhanced Army. Supergirl could see him tighten all his muscular defences to maximum force. Once again Helga raised her arm. Supergirl could hear Superman's "Oooooofffff", and she could see his face contort with pain, as Helga's fist ploughed into his midriff, smashing ribs. Not even Kryptonian muscles could take that kind of punishment. Helga's massive right hook completely demolished all of his muscular defence, and left him broken and utterly helpless before her. With a roar of triumph she sank her fist into his stomach again. Supergirl winced as she saw his eyes nearly burst out of his head, and as she heard the explosion of air which Helga's blow burst out of his lungs, together with a good deal of blood. Then he seemd to collapse and he gagged as his head sank forward to his chest. At a gesture from Helga the Enhanced Soldiers who had been holding Superman upright loosed their hold. The gagging Superman dropped to his hands and knees at Helga's feet. Supergirl watched in horror as Helga Hammerfist stood over him. She linked her fists together, and raised them high above her head, like a medieval executioner raising his axe. Then she slammed both fists down together on to the back of Superman's neck, exactly as if she were executing him. Superman's head did not separate from his body, but that seemed to be the only difference from a real execution. Supergirl's super hearing picked up an ugly "craaaaack" as bones in the back of Superman's head broke, and as the force of Helga's blow smashed him into the concrete floor, where he lay utterly still, as if he were dead. Supergirl wondered if Helga had killed him, and if he had felt anything when she did. Holding the defeated Green Lantern she fled from the scene. At a command from Lex the Enhanced Army loaded the defeated Justice Leaguers into a truck, and drove them into Gotham Square, where they laid them down, side by side, on the sidewalk, under a large sign saying "They trepassed on my property, and my people used no more than reasonable force to evict them." Supergirl flew them all back to Justice League Headquarters.
