The Reader's Guide to Demented's Bookshelf
by demented20

Hello all and welcome to my bookshelf guide.

First let me thank all the people who've taken the time to read my stories. You all know who you are, and I'd like to thank all of you who have sent me messages over the years. They always help keep me motivated to come out with the best stuff I can. I do want to mention Marathondan, stmercy2020, Mongoose750, Michael-Leonard who have given me great feedback(and critiques) over time.

To introduce myself, I'm demented20 and I stumbled onto the Diana the Valkyrie site more than ten years ago when I was looking for some good stories to read. I've been a member on and off, but mostly on since about 2000 or 2001. I loved reading the stories, but in 2003 I decided to try my hand at a female muscle story. I have three different series now plus a couple of stand alone stories, and putting this little guide together is the least I can do for people who might have read one of my chapters and had no idea where to go after that.

I have three series; Coping with Power(Power Overload) ... Power and Fury(Super Secret Agent), and finally Caeda.. Most of my stories are connected in some way and occur in the same world where characters might bump into characters from another series. Also, since I've been at this for a while, there are characters who pop up in stories who haven't been seen in a while. Hopefully I can make some sense of my chaos.

Coping with Power(Power Overload):

There's lots of super strong female muscle in this story. Lots of feats of strength and solo action. There's also a super girl on super girl battle that last for three chapters. It had enough of a reaction to keep me writing female muscle stories.

This story was my first attempt at a female muscle story. I'd read lots of stories about an ugly or unattractive woman who suddenly becomes beautiful and strong then  get revenge of some sort on all of those who'd done her wrong. I wondered though, what would happen if a woman was already gorgeous and very successful before she got her extreme strength. That lead me to writing Coping with Power. Just to sort of find out how the main character would deal with her new found strength.

Main Characters:

Lisa Sanchez: She's the beautiful and talented daughter of a Puerto Rican father and an African-American mother who is the vice-president of an advertising firm. Her career is on the fast track until her new super power threatens to derail her entire life.

Ian Brooster: He's a medical doctor who conducts special research. He's also Lisa's best friend. He uses his medical knowledge and his easy manner to help his friend through her problem. The table turns a little later in the story.

Moira Kelly: She's a 6'0" tall blonde with genius level skills in chemistry, who's on a quest to become the strongest being on earth. Her goal takes Moira to places that she never thought that she'd go, and she does things that she never thought she would do.

Bernard Wilson(Benny): He's a serial rapist and murderer who's a pretty disturbed guy.

Ed: He's the leader of a commune of people who have enhanced their strength to super human levels. He's not a bad man, but he'll fight to keep his grip on power.

Alonzo Reyes: He's the first character besides Lisa who is naturally gifted with a super power. He runs a scrap metal yard on the South Side of Chicago that's has seen better days.

Jeremy Redwine: He's Alonzo's uncle is a famous chef and restauranteur.

Cassidy(Cassie) Redwine: She's a teenaged figure competitor looking for her pro card who is also naturally gifted. She's also a friend of the main characters from the Power & Fury series, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Gloria Freeman Sanchez: She's Lisa's mother and a nurse in Atlanta. She helps raise her special needs nephew and knows nothing about her daughter's extraordinary strength.

There are other characters of course, but these are the main ones. They can and most likely will pop up in my other two series.

The Chapters:

1. Coping with Power Lisa Sanchez discovers her power, but wishes she hadn't by demented20 (01/Apr/03)

2. Coping with power chap.2 Lisa Sanchez discovers her powers, but wishes she hadn't by demented20 (01/Apr/03)

3. Coping with power chap.3 Lisa comes to terms with her strength. by demented20 (01/Apr/03)

4. Coping with power chap.4 Lisa gets confronted then gets even by demented20 (28/Jul/03)

5. Coping with power chap.5 Lisa is introduced to a world of strength and power by demented20 (28/Jul/03)

I couldn't let the story rest there, but I didn't really know where I wanted it to go. I wrote the next two chapters with no goal in mind, but at the end of Chapter 5, I introduced one of my favorite characters, Moira Kelly. I let the story sit for a year because I didn't have anything to add until I reread chapter 5 and realized that Moira was a gold mine that had been there the whole time. Chapter 6 is all about Moira.

6. Coping with Power Chap. 6 The story of Moira Kelly and her quest for ultimate strength and power by demented 20 (12/May/04)

7. Coping with Power Chap. 7 Moira gets help to get even stronger and Lisa gets closer to the truth by demented20 (12/May/04)

Thanks to the people who read chapter 7 and then were still around a year later when I finally got around to writing chapters 8, 9, and 10. I was pretty pleased with these chapters though. This was the first time I had written a battle between two super strong women. If you like a good brawl without lots of banter check these out.

8. Coping with Power Chapter 8 Moira's strength grows to terrible heights. Ian gets in trouble, and Lisa plans the rescue. By demented20 (07/Aug/05)

9. Coping with Power Chap. 9 Lisa starts her rescue and clashes with Moira for the first time. By demented20 (07/Aug/05)

10. Coping with Power Chap. 10 Moira and Lisa finish the battle of two powerful amazons By demented20 (07/Aug/05)

I should pause here again because a lot happened between Chapter 10 and 11. I started my 2nd series Power and Fury and was 22 chapters into it before I thought about writing more Coping with Power, but I made some changes. I came up with a new name. Coping with Power was fine, but ten times in a row was started to wear on me. So the newly christened Power Overload picks up right where chapter 10 left off.

11. Power Overload After their epic battle, the two strongest women in the world move in together, and now one of them needs the other's help (30/Jun/07)

12. Power Overload Pt.2 Lisa and Moira use their awesome strength to save lives, and Lisa has some gang trouble in DC, or they have some Lisa trouble... (30/Jun/07)

13. Power Overload: How much can you lift? Lisa was finishing a workout when some muscle heads burst in, and she is forced to show them what real strength is. (27/Aug/07)

14. Power Overload: Stronger than she looks Lisa is beautiful and successful, but always seems to attract trouble. A gang of crooks find out the hard way that she is also strong, very strong. (09/Sep/07)

15. Power Overload: Hero for a Day Lisa Sanchez can't get the nerve to tell her mother about her super strength, instead she gets an earth shaking demonstration. (27/Dec/07)

16. Power Overload: Muscle for Show Alonzo knows that his girlfriend is strong, but will he risk their relationship, and his health, to find out just how strong (30/Mar/08)

There might be more to Lisa's story. She makes regular appearances in the Power and Fury series and is even in Caeda a couple of times. Still with me? Ok, let's keep going.

Power and Fury(Super Secret Agent)

I hinted at it in Coping with Power, but this is the series where I really started upping the action. There are shootouts and brawls and melees. There's lots of muscle girls and feats of strength. Every now and then a story just needs a little mayhem. Power and Fury has all of that.

This story started as an idea in 2005. I'd already written about a woman who's powers had manifested as an adult, and explored how it affected her life. Now I asked myself what a character would be like if a teen had grown up with her powers, with only her parents knowing that she's different. Just to make things more interesting, these powers aren't passive or under the character's control. Power and Fury follows three girls as they go through their lives with lots and lots of excitement.

This story happens in the same world as Coping with Power, but I wanted to expand the world and add more powers and more characters.

Main Characters:

Jan Caufield: She's a shade under 6'1" and as beautiful as she is tall and athletic. She's super strong and nearly invulnerable. Like I said though, her power isn't passive like Lisa's. Jan's power is like a volcano inside her. It causes all sorts of problems, which is why the story starts with her going to a reform school for rich girls.

Alisha von Edder: She's Jan's slightly chubby roommate at the new school school. She speaks 4 languages fluently (which expands to 6); she's a computer whiz, and a talented painter. She also curses like a drunken sailor. Over the course of the series, Alisha realizes her potential with her gifts and with her body too.

Sara Hewitt: She's a soft spoken Southern Belle who is also a student at the reform school, although no one knows exactly why. She and Jan become friends, and just like Jan, Sara keeps a big secret. Her small frame hides enormous power. Along with Jan and Alisha, Sara helps form the core characters of Power and Fury.

Thomas Jackson Lee: He's a young African-American kid who possesses a great power. He was hunted by a man who wanted to harness his power to make him a weapon until he accidentally came across Jan Caufield. Now he's Jan's adopted brother.

Jack Caufield: Jan's father is an ex-Army officer who stands 6'4" and weighs 240 pounds. He's a successful business man in the defense industry, but he keeps his past secret from his daughter for good reason.

Chris Addams: He's Sara's former boyfriend. He has the power to phase shift and walk through solid objects and into them. He's been gone for a while, but he's coming back.

Charles Hewitt III: He's Sara's younger half brother. He's only in the story a couple of times in person so far, but that won't last much longer.

Brian Pronger: He's one of Jan's best friends from college. He loves video games, comic books, photography, and muscular women. Plus he can keep a secret.

Ian Brooster: The very same Ian Brooster from the Coping with Power series. He makes several appearances in this series, and he plays a role in helping Jan with her powers too. He's one of the first people to ever make Jan feel the least bit comfortable with her powers.

Agent Aaron Miles: He's an FBI agent who has a vendetta towards Jan.

Romano Scarlforo: He's the evil man looking for Thomas. He's the leader of an international syndicate that is tasked with finding gifted people to make them weapons for his bosses.

Jason Mallster: He's the American counterpart to Scarlforo. His syndicate takes regular people and turns them into heartless thoughtless super killers with super strength and no remorse. He thinks his program is successful until his soldiers run into the ultimate soldier, Jan Caufield. He sends his super soldiers after Jan so he can research her and make his soldiers better.

Femmes: The all female Femme soldiers or Series 4.7f are the most lethal and advanced soldiers in the world. They are able to completely blend in and act normally around people. Their real personalities have all been erased. The Femmes are all numbered and all of them beautiful strong and deadly.

X-424: She's a Femme, but not like the others. She retains a bit of herself and is trying to remember who she was, and how to get her life back.

Series 3's: This is the first effective generation of soldiers in Jason Mallster's super soldier program. They used to be regular men, most of them were criminals or homeless. Through a scientific process, they are made stronger and faster than humans, but they must be controlled from a central unit that has be kept close to where they are operating. The process of strengthening them also causes them to have very yellow skin that is so unnatural that they can't blend in to the regular population.

Series 4's: The next generation are even stronger and faster. Their skin is less yellow allowing them to blend in, and they don't need a central unit to control them. Bullets don't slow them down. They are the first soldiers that can truly be called super.

Special Agent Harry Wills: He's Jan, Alisha, and Sara's former boss at the Special Programs division of the Federal Clandestine Service.

Melvin Johnson (Mel): He is a 7' tall 400 pound giant of a man who seems to work on both sides of the law. He's one of the few people in the world who can harm Jan Caufield with his bare hands. Early on, he's the subject of her fears.

Morgen Stern:  He'd been working with his partner the Broker for a long time, but now he's trying to branch out on his own.

Martha Worthington: She's a CIA agent who oversees a secret buried academy. She becomes a mentor for Jan, Sara, and Alisha.

There are other people who come and go throughout the series, but these are the biggies.

The Chapters:

Power & Fury chapters are sometimes multi chapter arcs and some of them are stand alone chapters. I like to mix it up a bit. I'll put the stand alone chapters in parenthesis in case you want to know which they are.

1. Power and Fury Pt.1 6'1" Jan moves to a new school and teaches a bully a lesson. (02/Nov/06)

2. Power and Fury Pt.2 Secrets are revealed; Heather plots revenge, and blood is spilled (02/Nov/06)

4. Power and Fury: Coming out Party Jan and Sara face danger together and it changes their lives forever. (29/Nov/06)

5. Power and Fury: Test and Torture Jan Caufield is tested like never before to find out just how indestructible she really is. (31/Dec/06)

I'll stop here to explain the name change. I hate ruts so I decided to change it up a little. I never gave it much thought really...

6. Super Secret Agent Pt.1 Jan Caufield and her skills are turned loose on the criminal world with bad results for the criminals. (19/Jan/07)

7. Super Secret Agent Pt.2 Jan tries to recover from her wounds, but instead is taken to the edge by a man named Mel (19/Jan/07)

16. Super Secret Agent: New Beginning Pt.4the conclusion Alisha shows off her all her various powers, while the team tries to save undercover agents. The bad guys don't have a chance. (09/Apr/07)

These chapters represent the next phase of the story. There are new characters, and some old characters learn more about themselves. I tried to show how the characters had progressed over the year.

(17). Power and Fury: The Evil Around Us Three very powerful young women try to live normal lives, but they must try to stop a menace terrorizing an entire city. Can they? (19/Apr/07)

20. Super Secret Agent: Worth Fighting for Pt.3 Jan and her powerful friends are tested to their limits as they fight to bring down a brutal syndicate while Jan's family is changed forever (10/May/07)

That was the 3rd of my planned plots, and it all leads up to the 4th plot.

21. Super Secret Agent: Going to Sin City pt. 1 Three very powerful teenage girls go to have a little fun in the Big Easy, but find out that they are being stalked. (02/Jun/07)

22. Super Secret Agent: Going to Sin City pt. 2 Jan, Alisha, and Sara go on a mission to save the city, but have enough time to have some naughty fun during Mardi Gras. (02/Jun/07)

27. Power and Fury: Holding Nothing Back Pt.2 A ruthless organization is holding powerful teen Jan Caufield captive trying to study her powers, and she makes them pay dearly. (09/Aug/07)

28. Power and Fury: Holding Nothing Back pt. 3 of 3 Car chases, explosions, blood, guts, strength, muscles, and mayhem (21/Aug/07)

Still with me? Cool, then let's go to the next phase of Power and Fury. I renumbered the chapters started from 01 (which has caused problems in the bookshelf but oh well). I wanted to start over again because I think of this as Book 2 of Power and Fury.

01. Power and Fury: The Early Days pt.1 of 2 Before she was a super powered secret agent, Jan was just a teen with dangerous powers that she didn't want and couldn't control. (23/Nov/07)

02. Power and Fury: The Early Days pt. 2 of 2 Young teen Jan learns that she has to fight for what she wants, but will her powers fail her when she needs them the most? (23/Nov/07)

This is sort of an origin story going back in time for to show Jan's struggles with her powers as a young girl.

03. Power and Fury: Just Warming Up Super powered college sophomore Jan Caufield may have mellowed, but a friend learns that she still packs a heck of a punch. (19/Feb/08)

04. Power and Fury: Itching for a Fight Jan Caufield's last fight nearly killed her, and the next one might finish her... or make her even more powerful. (01/Mar/08)

05. Power and Fury: The Heist It seemed like a great day to rob an armored car, but super powered Jan has her confidence and powers back at full strength, or does she? (05/Mar/08)

The next three chapters are the introduction of the Femmes. And of their new boss, Benny.

06. The Femme Soldiers They're stronger, they're quicker, they're beautiful, and they're deadly. (11/Jun/08)

07. The Femme Soldiers Attack No mercy, no remorse, no stopping them. (18/Jun/08)

08. The Strength Serum Somebody else has it, and Benny wants is back. (28/Jul/08)

I wasn't going to make so many Femme focused chapters, but it seemed like people loved them, so after putting a chapter focused on our normal heroines, it's back to the Femmes.

09. Power and Fury: Power Problems Problems at home and problems at work, what are super powered teens to do? (28/Aug/08)

10. The Femme Revolution The Femmes kill, destroy, then melt into the night. (11/Sep/08)

11. The Femme Revolution Pt. 2 The beautiful and dangerous Femmes take the dangerous game to a new level. Plus one Femme shows that she's not like the others. (15/Oct/08)

12. The Terror Gallery pt. 1 Terrorist group the Revolution steps up their deadly game, plus a teenaged superheroine learns a lesson that might save her life. (27/Oct/08)

13. The Terror Gallery pt.2 The Revolution has new found power and might be unstoppable. Only three beautiful and gifted girls stand in their way. (27/Oct/08)

14. The Femme Soldier: Strength Conquers All X-424, the deadliest Femme soldier, does battle with one of the strongest women in the world. (25/Jan/09)

This is the start of another story arc that all happens on the same day, and it starts to bring the story lines together.

15. The Femme Rampage What happens when an elite super soldier becomes too big and too strong? (16/Mar/09)

16. Power and Fury: Pushed to the Edge It doesn't take much to get 6'1" Jan Caufield mad, and when her fists start flying, people get hurt. (23/Mar/09)

17. Power and Fury: Sara's Bad Day A young woman is forced to use the muscles she usually keeps hidden. (04/Apr/09)

The next couple of chapters bring out more about the nature of the various powers and how they work.

18. Power and Fury: Full Circle A young woman who controls vast arcane powers gives her friend a very special birthday present. (22/Jun/09)

19. Power and Fury: Full Circle pt. 2 With her strength restored, a young super woman does what she does best... kick butt. (07/Jul/09)

20. Power and Fury: Killer on the Road A hitchhiker gets taken for a ride. (19/Jul/09)

Whew! I hope you made it this far. You'll thank me later.

There's more to come. I have more characters and bigger fights and more powers and muscles and all of that stuff.

Caeda

This story was a little bit of a departure from my other stories. Caeda is a sleek assassin, but she doesn't kill like most assassins. With Caeda, killing is an art.

I'd like to thank everybody who read Caeda. It is a departure, but this series happens within the same world. Caeda fits into the story lines from the other series, but above all this is the story of an assassin. Most of my stories start with a question in my mind, but this one started with Caeda's character.

The Characters:

Caeda: She is an assassin of extraordinary skill and beauty. She is cold hearted most of the time, but has the capacity for mercy. Caeda doesn't kill like most assassins you've read about. To her, killing is like an art that is created and not calculated. Caeda also has a regular identity that she keeps very separate from her assassin identity. Caeda's past haunts her, and she's looking for the mark who can best her and put her out of her misery. So far she hasn't found one better than her... not even close

Mrs. Havasu: She is a little old lady who lives next door to Caeda. She and Caeda are very close, but Caeda tries to keep her dark side hidden. Caeda doesn't know it, but Mrs. Havasu is more perceptive than she gives her credit for.

The Broker:  He's Caeda's shadowy benefactor and friend. He runs a business that relies on gifted people, and uses them too.

Russell Redwine:  Here is yet another Redwine. He has the same power as his father Jeremy and his younger sister Cassie. He meets Caeda and awakens something inside of her that she thought was gone.

Morgen Stern:  He is a very handsome man who has the power to whisper to a brain and make a person do whatever he wants them to do.

Chet Perkins:  He's better known as Ryder. He's Caeda's teacher and mentor, plus one of the most dangerous men in the world.

The Guilds: The Sword & Shield, the Tin Knives, and the Black Gate are the three thieves and assassins guilds that control much of the underworld activites.

The Chapters:

1. Caeda: The Art of the Kill She's strong. She's sexy, and hers might be the last face you see before you die. (22/Sep/07)

2. Caeda: Death's Shadow Caeda is as deadly as she is beautiful, and once you're on her list, its too late (28/Sep/07)

3. Caeda: Rules to Kill By Beautiful assassin Caeda gets mad when contracts get in the way of her regular life, and when Caeda gets mad, people die in bunches. (07/Oct/07)

4. Caeda: Mountain Rescue Even when gorgeous assassin Caeda is doing good, people die (19/Oct/07)

5. Caeda: An Assassin's Holiday When gorgeous assassin Caeda breaks her own rule, she becomes the hunted (18/Jan/08)

6. Caeda: The Death Blow The beautiful assassin tries her hand at love and happiness, but finds out that her hands are better suited to killing. (07/Apr/08)

The next four chapters tell Caeda's life story, and it ain't easy.

7. Caeda: The Assassin's Call What does it take to make a cold blooded assassin? Caeda knows all too well. (24/Dec/08)

8. Caeda: Into the Shadows Caeda begins her training and his honed by the most dangerous man in the world. (24/Dec/08)

9. Caeda: The Dark Path World travels, high adventure, and big money lure Caeda down a shadowy road. (07/Jan/09)

10. Caeda: Enter the Black Gate Amaris tries to escape her fate, but after tragedy, Caeda is born. conclusion (12/Jan/09)

11. Caeda: Back to Business The beautiful assassin goes on an impossible mission and proves why she's the best in the world. (15/May/09)

The end of Caeda's story begins and ends in the next two chapters.

12. Caeda: The Last Mark One more to kill... (18/Sep/09)

13. Caeda: Alive or Dead Caeda has ended lots of lives, but can she save her own... (24/Sep/09)

I brought this series to a close. Thank you to everyone who read Caeda and helped me make her story better with your encouragement and comments.

Stand Alone Stories:

I've written a few stories that aren't part of any series.

Halloween Special

The Halloween Party Super teen Jan Caufield and her super powered friends throw a Halloween Party like only super heroes can. (29/Oct/07)

This story isn't part of a series, but it does use characters from Coping with Power and Power and Fury. I came up with the idea for this story a couple of days before Halloween, and I had to write really quickly to get it posted before Halloween itself.

Big All Over

Big All Over (11/Mar/09)

BAO is really three chapters that I wrote for a message board.  Once again I have to thank Michael-Leonard for compiling the stories and posting them here on Diana the Valkyrie.

The Forgotten Palace

I got a character type suggestion from Mongoose750 and even if he didn't mean it to, it gave me an idea for an entirely new story. I got the first half of it posted a little while ago. The second half will be here soon. I promise... well I hope.

The Forgotten Palace A ruthless king imprisoned by a mighty queen longs for a strong woman able to break him free (23/Oct/09)

Okay! That's all of it. I hope this clears up some things, and if even one reader decides to jump into one of my stories because of this little guide then my work here has all been worth it :)
