The name of the
chapter practically spells it out without making it too obvious. Nothing much
else to say except the story isn't over yet!
Chapter XVII: The
Death of a Good and an Evil
It was a sight that
froze Tiamat in his tracks. Leonardo was back on his feet, rejuvenated by this
surge of mystical energy. But where was it coming from?! He wasn't capable of
consciously controlling mystical energy! And yet it glowed like an aura,
surrounding him with power that seemed to match his fury.
Tiamat did his
best to gather himself. "Enough of this! What the hell are
you?!"
Leonardo's glowing blue eyes remained fixed on his opponent.
"I am the instrument of your destruction! You will pay for all of your
transgressions!"
Leonardo moved with speed too quick for Tiamat to
follow. Before he could even react, a fist connected with his midsection,
which forced blood to fly out of his mouth. Leonardo nailed him with a series of
punches that literally lifted Tiamat off the ground. He followed
that with
an upward kick that caught Tiamat's jaw and sent him flipping head over heels
into some nearby wreckage.
Leonardo retrieved his katana
swords
and walked over to where Tiamat was now laying. But Tiamat
wasn't out of the fight yet and burst back onto the scene.
"I don't know
where you got that power, but don't think you've won!" Tiamat
shouted.
Tiamat channeled his mystical energy into his arm and converted
it to his lightning element. He then started intensifying the bolts, making
their reach greater.
"Let's see how well you like this
attack! And most of all, there's no dodging it!" Tiamat said as he began
blasting his lightning bolts from his arm at Leonardo. Thinking quickly,
Leonardo pulled out his katanas, planted one into the ground
while holding on to it, and thrust
the other one up in front of him. His trick worked as the
otherwise highly lethal lightning bolts became drawn to the outstretched katana
like a lightning rod and flowed through Leonardo to his other blade, channeling
it into the ground. But this also left him immobile, as he had to maintain the
grounded connection to avoid being scorched by the lightning bolts. Tiamat
couldn't believe what he saw. He kept up his attack though, figuring Leonardo
would falter sooner or later.
But falter he wouldn't. His own mystical
energy started to become increasingly amplified as his anger rose within him
again. He will kill Tiamat! His aura started to explode outward as his
own energy actually managed to overpower Tiamat's lightning element energy.
Leonardo took this opportunity to remove his swords and run at Tiamat, ready to
impale him. Tiamat had to stop his attack and leap into the air to dodge. But
there was no keeping up with Leonardo's speed. Leonardo leapt into the air after
him and landed a series of short kicks, momentarily put away his swords to free
up his hands, grabbed Tiamat's arm, and swung him around and launched him
downward so fast, he moved like a blur toward the
ground. Tiamat hit some wreckage and it exploded outward from the
impact.
Leonardo landed and again drew his
swords, his outpouring of mystical energy finally dying down.
Tiamat stirred as he struggled to sit up. He was beaten and a trickle of blood
came out of his mouth. But Leonardo didn't show a trace of remorse in his
eyes.
"Heh heh, well. I guess I was wrong about you. You... and I aren't
so different after all." Tiamat goaded.
Leonardo placed his swords,
crossed
scissor-like, around Tiamat's neck. "You're wrong. I am
nothing like you. You're a monster that wishes only to take lives. I
should've done this from the beginning!"
Tiamat laughed. "Don't think
you've won! Even if you destroy all of us, it is nothing compared to the horrors
that you will eventually face! Oh yes, it's all so clear to me now!
Everything you've done, everything you’ve shown,
it all points to a dark legend that is written in the Akashic Records
that we have seen in the dream world. The
human race will be extinguished in the end!"
Leonardo had enough
of Tiamat's ranting. "This nightmare ends here.
Goodbye,
Tiamat!"
Leonardo swung his swords through Tiamat's neck, severing his
head and killing him. He stood over Tiamat's corpse as his head
cleared and he became calmer. A hand touched his shoulder.
He swung around swiftly, one of his swords
mere inches from Splinter's throat.
"Leonardo, stop! It's me!" Splinter
yelled.
Leonardo showed recognition as his eyes returned to normal and
were wide with terror over what he almost did and dropped his
swords.
"M-Master Splinter. I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over
me!" Leonardo said as he dropped to his knees.
Splinter was beside
himself. "I can understand killing Tiamat. He had no remorse in him. But it was
like you were a different person there for a minute."
Leonardo was at a
loss for words. He couldn't explain it either. Ever since Tiamat had him at the
business end of his sword with the electric current pushing him close to
death, he felt this rage within him that was greater than he expected it to be.
All he wanted was to kill Tiamat, but that power was what scared
him. He had never learned how to use mystical energy, and yet
he felt his whole body overflow with it. By all accounts he should be dead from
his wounds now. This power... was it always inside him? If being so close to
death is enough to trigger this reaction in him, it might be worth taking up
instruction in learning how to control mystical energy. But Master Splinter
wasn't skilled in its use, and I Chung was dead. The only one he could learn
from is Venus.
"Venus! We’ve got to help her!"
Leonardo cried as he remembered Venus.
Donatello and Michelangelo had
remained silent this whole time. Neither of them could understand what happened
to Leonardo anymore than Splinter could. They were glad to see him alive and
well.
"That's our plan. We need to help Venus take down Tatsuo for good.
She's very strong, but Tatsuo is not to be underestimated. We must help her!"
Splinter said.
Leonardo wiped the blood off his katana
swords and put them away as he joined Splinter,
Donatello, and Michelangelo to search for Venus.
* * *
"CLANG!" came the
sound of Tatsuo's fast swinging fire sword as it knocked one of Venus's
tessen out of her grip and into a nearby pile of wreckage, where it
disappeared from sight.
Venus caught
Tatsuo's arm as he was swinging and landed some well-aimed kicks to his
midsection, and then used her physical strength to wrench his sword from his
grip. Venus went to swing her remaining tessen at Tatsuo's head, but
this time he grabbed her wrist and nailed her in the face with a headbutt. The
force of the blow caused her to stagger as he picked up his sword,
ignited it with fire, and swung it down on her head. Venus only barely
got her tessen up in time to block it, but the combined force and fiery
intensity was enough of to split her tessen in half. Venus let go and
leapt back. She pulled out her remaining katana blades and charged full
force at Tatsuo. Tatsuo once again intensified his fire sword and began parrying
her attacks and trying to connect with his own. Both locked their blades
together, trying to overpower each other. But Tatsuo just
grinned.
"What could possibly be funny?!" Venus asked,
bemused.
"Oh, it's just that you fail to realize that you are
beaten!" Tatsuo declared.
Venus couldn't help but chuckle. "Well
boy, aren't you getting ahead of yourself! It's not over ‘til it's
over!"
This time Tatsuo really laughed manically. "Oh but it is!
I hate having to do it just to win a fight, but I'm increasing my powers to
maximum! And my sword is more than just able to channel elemental fire!
The immense heat also increases it's cutting potential
even greater than Tiamat's lightning element! Which
means..."
Tatsuo's sword became so hot that Venus could feel the
heat right through her shell. Her swords were also becoming very hot when
finally, the fire sword snapped them both in two. Venus jumped back to gather
herself. This wasn't good. Tatsuo's fire sword returned to normal as he held it
out in front.
"C'mon! What happened to avenging I Chung? Hmm? You
are ready to die for that vengeance aren't you?" Tatsuo
taunted.
Venus wasn't about to back down. She would avenge her
father. And if it meant dying to attain that vengeance...
"I'm not
afraid to die. But, if that is my fate, then rest assured you will work hard for
it!" Venus said simply.
Tatsuo’s laugh became more
evil. "Ha! This will be fun!"
Venus focused solely
on her enemy. The rest of her world faded away as, more than ever, her hard and
shaped muscles would be put to the ultimate test. She sprang
forth, narrowly blocked an attempted sword swing by Tatsuo with her
forearm, and successfully landed a palm-thrust to the side of his head, making
him stagger. This was all she needed to land several more punches. Tatsuo
staggered back some more and, when he managed to look back up, he was on the
receiving end of a powerful leaping roundhouse kick.
Venus could
clearly tell that Tatsuo had indeed increased his fighting powers to maximum, as
that same combination would've knocked him down already. But instead, he
returned a powerful blow to Venus's chest, sending her flying several feet and
barely landing on her feet as she skidded to a stop. She clutched her chest for
a moment and ran at Tatsuo, then leapt in the air and landed a couple feet
shy of him into a sliding leg sweep. But Tatsuo jumped to avoid it, flipped in
midair and landed a few feet away from her. He was indeed faster and more
responsive than before, but Venus was running on pure muscle! Tatsuo had barely
turned around when a fist hit him so hard, he sailed into a nearby wall with a
thud. Venus had also turned up her fighting ability as she kept up her offensive
by bounding off the wall. Tatsuo stepped back, but couldn't dodge another wide
kick from Venus's muscled leg, sending him head over heels. He managed to
turn it into a backflip to stabilize his momentum, but was still unable to get
away from Venus or to avoid an upward kick that once again sent him for a loop.
He landed and instantly put his guard up, just in time to stop another frontal
assault by Venus as they locked arms.
Tatsuo smiled wickedly as he hit
her with another headbutt, which stunned her long enough to get in a good
thrust kick that sent her flying backwards. She looked up just in time to see
Tatsuo swinging his sword at her head and she barely managed to duck it, the
sword clanging against a scorched car. Venus knocked Tatsuo's sword arm away,
grabbed him by his shoulders and pushed him backward as she jumped, increasing
her forward momentum. She got her legs up over Tatsuo's chest as he fell
off his feet, and doubled his impact on the ground by kicking her own feet down
onto his chest, allowing her to bounce off him. But she felt his hand grab her
ankle. Tatsuo swung her around and around as fast as he could by her legs,
smashing her through various pieces of wreckage and threw her at another wall as
hard as he could. But Venus landed vertically against the wall as it cracked
from the impact.
It was clear that Venus was looking increasingly
battered, but she was in the fight of her life and nothing short of broken bones
would stop her from fighting to the end. She sprung from the wall and dove at
Tatsuo, landing a punch with such vicious ferocity that he bounced off the
ground like a skipping stone. But Venus moved so fast that she blew past him,
took hold of him, and used his momentum to
throw him skyward. Venus crouched down and shot up into the air. She grabbed
Tatsuo by one of his wounded wings, and snapped him down to the ground with
blinding speed, causing the ground itself to shake a little on
impact.
Venus landed and was beside herself to see Tatsuo
stirring among the wreckage. There was no way he could survive an assault like
that! Was he just toying with her earlier?! Tatsuo's fist shot out of the
debris, scattering it as he got back up. He may have survived her attack, but he
was clearly worn down. But was it enough?
"That was a nice try. But I
said I would prove my superiority by showing you my full power! I hope you
enjoyed what advantages you had over me before because now, they're gone,
and so are you!!" Tatsuo said as he threw the shell of a car at
her.
Venus backhanded the car and it exploded into several pieces, but it
was a distraction. Venus felt the cold steel of Tatsuo's blade pierce her chest.
Tatsuo looked deep in her eyes with his own evil glare as he savored the
deathblow. Venus looked down at the blade as Tatsuo sent fire down the blade,
causing it to burn her insides.
"NOOOO!!!" came the scream of Leonardo as
he and the others had just appeared on the battlefield only to witness this
horrifying scene before them. Tatsuo looked up at Leonardo and grinned as he
savored his kill. Venus grimaced in pain, but then felt that pain fade away.
Memories of I Chung flashed through her mind as she saw him smiling at her,
completely free of pain. The life left her eyes as she died on Tatsuo's fiery
blade. Tatsuo laughed as he swung his sword, throwing Venus's lifeless body off
to the side where it landed with a thud.
Tears filled Leonardo's eyes as
he looked at the half-burned body of the woman he had come to realize deep down
inside that he loved. He ran over to her and cradled her lifeless body
close to his. Tatsuo stood there, amused, as he watched this pitiful scene
unfold before him.
"No Venus! This can't happen! You can't
die! You just can't!" Leonardo cried in despair. Tears flowed
down his cheeks as he put a hand to her open eyes and gently closed
them.
"I love you, Venus. You were the one, the one I was destined to
love with all my heart," he said.
He noticed a wide glowing stream of
faint light flow out from Venus's body. The
stream looked ghostly as it moved off into the distance.
"Goodbye Venus,"
Leonardo said.
Leonardo looked up at Tatsuo with renewed rage. He
hoped the powers that awoke within him before
would return to the surface again, but they didn't this time.
Not that it mattered right now. He would give Tatsuo a fate
similar to Tiamat's.
But no sooner did he stand up to run did he see
an arm appear in front of him.
"Stop! This is not your fight just yet,"
Splinter said.
"No, damn it! Tatsuo is mine to kill!" Leonardo yelled in
defiance.
"You will do as I tell you!!" Splinter shouted, which
seemed to snap Leonardo out of his anger.
"Master Splinter. I..."
Leonardo started to say, but Splinter interrupted him.
"I know how
much you care about Venus. But Tatsuo is much stronger than Tiamat.
Righteous anger will only work against you. Psychologically, Tatsuo has the
advantage. And I swore to avenge I Chung in Venus's place should she
happen to die trying herself. I have to try," Splinter
explained.
Leonardo was very tempted to disobey Splinter and go after
Tatsuo anyway, but he remembered all of his training and everything he himself
had tried to teach Raphael about his temper. He didn't like it, but he stepped
back.
"Thank you, Leonardo. The same goes for the rest of you! This is my
fight!" Splinter said to the other turtles.
Tatsuo held up his sword. "So
then, you want to join Venus and I Chung yourself, do ya? Well I'd be glad to
make your wish come true!"
Splinter pulled out a wooden staff that was
oddly shaped and prepared to fight. Everyone watched as they were about to see
their sensei in action.
